Frozen storage stability of beef patties incorporated with extracts from ulam raja leaves (Cosmos caudatus).

In Malaysia, fresh ulam raja leaves (Cosmos caudatus) are eaten raw with rice. In this study, beef patties incorporated with extracts of ulam raja (UREX) and commercial green tea extract (GTE) added individually at 200 and 500 mg/kg were stored at -18°C for up to 10 weeks. Lipid oxidation, cooking yield, physicochemical properties, textural properties, proximate composition and sensory characte...

Antidiabetic Activity of Ruellia tuberosa L., Role of α-Amylase Inhibitor: In Silico, In Vitro, and In Vivo Approaches

Ruellia tuberosa L. is a folk remedy in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. However, its hypoglycemic activity has not been investigated so far. In the present study, the antidiabetic mechanism of the n-hexane fraction of methanolic extract (HFME) of this plant was investigated in silico, in vitro, and in vivo. In silico study was performed using AutoDock4.2 software. In vitro  α-amylase inhibi...

Biofabrication of gold and silver nanoparticles for pharmaceutical applications

Biofabrication by using fungi is an exciting recent interest to develop an eco-friendly production of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) for pharmaceutical applications. This study aimed to synthesize and characterize gold (Au) and silver (Ag) NPs by using Penicillium simplisimum. The fungus was grown in fluid czapek dox broth on shaker at 28 ºC and 200 rpm for ten days. Then the supernatant was...

Hypoglycemic Activity of Ruellia tuberosa Linn (Acanthaceae) in Normal and Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rabbits

The present study was carried out to determine the hypoglycemic activity of the methanolic extract and solvent fractions (n-hexane and ethyl acetate) of Ruellia tuberosa in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits. Optimum dose of R. tuberosa for hypoglycemic activity was determined by oral administration of the methanolic extract (ME) to normal and diabetic ...

Microencapsulation of Butyl Palmitate in Polystyrene-co-Methyl Methacrylate Shell for Thermal Energy Storage Application

MicroEncapsulated Phase Change Materials (MEPCM) are green materials which could be used for thermal energy saving applications in buildings as a non-pollutant method for environmental. PCMs could passively reduce peak cooling loads in hot seasons because of their high energy storage capacities at a constant temperature. Purpose of this paper is manufacturing Microencapsulated PCM (MPCM) pr...
